Keep up with the latest from Yoga Sanga

We made it!

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

We are so pleased to announce that after 11 months of sustained efforts from the Yoga team (and even longer from the Uprising management, we now have a new studio and space to call home!

On Saturday August 3rd, we marked this significant occasion with a dawn ceremony and practice attended by many of the Yoga Sanga regulars. We shared our stories of the last 6 years that led us to this point and cast our gaze towards this next chapter.

We were also very grateful and honoured to have Jodi Apiata with us to guide us through a Maori blessing and cleansing for the space in preparation for welcoming the wider community in. Jodi also shared with us some of the beautiful insights into the language and perspectives of Maori custom.

This felt like a very fitting completion to the ‘Yoga Sanga’ chapter and the beginning of Uprising Yoga.

We are stoked and honoured to be part of this new, innovative and community focussed space. With a considerably bigger timetable and custom designed studio, it is going to be even easier for our exisitng Yoga community to enjoy their practice.

In this video – some of our regulars share their thoughts on what they value and what keeps them coming back.

A big thank you to those who contributed. It’s not always easy standing in front of that camera!

PRANAYAMA CLASSES STARTING THIS SATURDAY – 23rd JUNE

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

Well, the gloomy weather of late has left no doubt we are in the midst of winter. So, it’s that time again – to move into a warmer and cosier space to focus on some revitalising Pranayama.

I am very much looking forward to continuing on from where we left off last winter. I would say that for most, Pranayama takes a little more patience and persistence than Asana but the rewards are worth it from my experience. This year we will have 10 Saturdays in Lyttelton to gain some proficiency, with the intent of establishing a clear and solid breath based practice for you.

Here are the details…

WHERE: 91B Reserve Terrace, Lyttelton
WHEN: 7:30 – 9:00am every Saturday (June 23rd – August 25th)
CHAI: provided as usual!
COST: normal class prices apply
CLASS: a led class beginning with some simple warm-ups (20 mins) and followed by a step by step instruction on the seated breath-based practices of Yoga (45 mins). We will finish the class with some simple meditation if time allows.
WHO: anyone willing to learn!

Please note this will be replacing the usual Mysore class at the Lyttelton Church for 10 weeks. The normal Mysore class will resume after this – the first day of Spring!

As always, please feel free to call or text me if you’d like to know more about the class.

Beginner’s Course Starting Soon!

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

Our next beginner’s course is starting on the 3rd of November, held at the beautiful studio space above Piko Wholefoods, 229 Kilmore Street.

This 6 week course is about learning the fundamentals of Ashtanga yoga. We’ll discover how to breath fully, how to synchronise our movement with the breath (vinyasa) and how to incorporate more subtle aspects still to create a flowing meditative movement.

By the end of the course, you will be able to continue this practice at home or (like many students) continue to develop it at our other regular weekly classes.

You will get lots of personal attention and there is always ample time for questions.

This is a great course if you are inquisitive about the wider philosophy of Yoga and also an ideal refresher for the more experienced student.

Spaces are limited – Book now by contacting Kirsty: kpriestleys@gmail.com or 021 234 3689
